Day 3 - Alexandria, MN to Rochester, MN

Wednesday, June 29 - All the kids were willing to get up early today with the thought of getting home. Our major difficulty today was two-fold: bad weather (thunderstorms) and driving through downtown Minneapolis/St. Paul. The drive was complicated by the fact that Hwy. 52 was not marked at all in Minnesota until south of St. Paul. We had to do our best to follow the highway based on the maps we had in the car. The traffic made R.J. tense, and then also we had to go right through the heart of downtown (past the University of Minnesota and the Capitol building). Once we finally made it to the south side of the Cities, we all breathed a sigh of relief. We decided to make one final stop on our trip, at the DQ in Cannon Falls. After that refreshing treat, we headed home. The rest of the trip went by quickly. Once in Rochester, we stopped at the church to pick up sermon CD's (so R.J. could post them to the CCC website) and then at the grocery store to stock up a bit. We finally arrived home around 1:30 p.m. to one very happy kitty. While Matilda followed us around, we unpacked, cleaned up, looked at the mail, cleaned up e-mail boxes, did laundry, and generally soaked up the good feelings of being at home.
